Brenda Kay Lowery, 67, of Brunswick, MD, passed away in the early morning of
December 12, 2019, after a one-year battle with cancer while in the comfort of
her home. She is at peace and resting now with a fountain soda or cup of coffee.
She was born in Charles Town, WV, on June 14, 1952. Brenda was the second
child, and first daughter, of Vernon and Katherine Carey.
She attended Brunswick High School and was chosen Veterans Day Queen in
1969. In 1980, she graduated from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice
Academy in Fairfax, VA, and became the first female deputy for the Loudoun
County Sheriff’s Department. Her career ended early due to an injury in 1984.
She was a Christian and displayed patriotism for America often. She was also a
member of the Brunswick Eagles Aerie #1136 Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered
when she could. Brenda enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to music (country,
bluegrass, and gospel), dancing, gardening, decorating, crafting, and spending
time with her friends and family, especially her grand and great-grand kids who
called her Mimi.
Brenda was preceded in death by both parents, Vernon (April 11, 1970) and
Katherine (December 23, 2006); brother, Vernon “Pete” Carey (July 14, 2011);
and niece, Carey Beth Dean (Nov 10, 2008)
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 17 years, Terry “Chizz”
Lowery; a sister, Crystal Dean; sister in law, Sharon Carey; two daughters, Jodie
Thomas and Jamilyn Troxell and her husband, Chris; 6 grandchildren,
Samantha, Robert, Marshall, Adonis, Adrienne, and Vincent; 5 great
grandchildren, Landon, Chloe, Kaleb, Bryson, and Akira; 3 nephews; and several
close lifelong friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on January 11, 2020 at 10:30 am at
Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Knoxville, MD, with a repast following
