Mr. Herminio Sobral “Bert” Samios-Uy, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the age of 74.

Bert was born to parents Simeon and Filomena Samios-Uy (nee Sobral) in the midst of World War II on June 20, 1942 very near the town of Sindangan, in Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines on the island of Mindanao. He grew up as the youngest of nine.

Bert attended the University of the East then enlisted in the United States Navy, which brought him to America in the early 60s, eventually working his way through the ranks to become an officer. He met and married Patricia in 1964 and the couple had four children. Bert graduated from The University of Baltimore with a Juris Doctorate and a degree as a Certified Public Accountant then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard as an officer in the JAG corps. After his tenure in the Coast Guard, he was employed as an attorney for the State of Maryland until he retired in the early 2000s.

Bert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (nee Erline); his children, Kenneth H. Samios-Uy, Karen L. Samios-Uy, Eric B. Samios-Uy and his wife, Jennifer Samios, and Jason L. Samios-Uy; his brother, Arbiendo S. Samios-Uy; his grandchildren, Zachary E. Samios-Uy, Devin P. Samios-Uy, Makani L. Samios-Uy, and Brooke S. Samios-Uy; and two great-grandchildren, Patricia J. Samios-Uy and Makayla L. Samios-Uy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Simeon and Filomina; his sisters Mercedes and Bernarda; and his brothers, Esperidion, Fernandez, Gregorio, Manuel, and Carlos.

A Memorial / Celebration of Life service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 24 at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to follow directly thereafter. All are welcome to celebrate the life of and remember this great man. The family is grateful for the condolences that so many have expressed.
