MaryCate Jones Walter, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Born on May 10, 1936 in Ellicott City, MD to Somerset and Caroline (nee Lycett) Jones. MaryCate graduated from Milford Mill High School in 1954. After graduating, she worked for Baltimore orthodontists, Drs. Robert and D. Robert Swinehart and later The Rouse Company until her marriage in 1979 to C. Edward Walter. A self-taught competitive tennis player and member of the St. Timothy’s Tennis Club, Catonsville, MD. She also played croquet competitively with the Patuxent Croquet Club. MaryCate was a long-time member of the Howard County Historical Society and a member and past president of the Howard County Garden Club. MaryCate enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for all of her loved ones and friends. A lifelong and faithful Episcopalian who was a choir member at St. Bartholomew’s in Baltimore City and a member of the Altar Guild and Lector at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Ellicott City, where she was also responsible for making their large natural green Advent wreath for the church’s chancel. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, C. Edward Walter; Step-daughter Kathryn Ciambruschini and her husband Pat, and Step-son W Barton Walter and his wife Lynn; 3 sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, 3 grand-daughters and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be forwarded to Gilchrist Hospice, Attn: Development Department 11311 McCormick Road, Suite 350, Hunt Valley, Maryland 21031.
