Carl Joseph Ahlgren, the proud father of Patrick, Jillian, Jacob, and Bridget, and husband of Kristin, passed away on April 16, 2018. He was 51 years old.
Carl's admiration for his children knew no bounds. He was constantly amazed by their accomplishments, big and small, and the people they were becoming. Being their father was his greatest joy in life. A voracious reader, eloquent writer, and Mets fan, Carl was raised with his sister, Regina, in Queens, New York by their loving parents Margaret Francis Ahlgren and Kenneth Carl Ahlgren. After graduating from Archbishop Molloy High School, he received his degrees from Queens College and Duke University. He enjoyed a career as a college counselor, teacher, and coach at a number of secondary schools around the country including Gilman School (MD); St. Mark’s School (MA); University Liggett School (MI); Casady (OK); and St. Agnes (NY). Carl was widely known and respected by colleagues and friends for his thoughtfulness, intelligence, generosity of spirit, and sense of humor. Above all, he was unfailingly dedicated to the students that he counseled and taught, as he helped countless families navigate the college process with warmth and care.
A funeral mass will be held on Sunday, April 29th, at 2 p.m. at St. Camillus Church, 99-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Park, New York.
A less formal gathering will take place the night before in Baltimore on Saturday, April 28, at the 7:05pm at the O's/Tigers game at Camden Yards. Friends will congregate in the centerfield bleachers to celebrate, mourn, and share stories.
