Edna Hammond Obituary

Edna “June” Hammond, 86, of College Park, Maryland, formerly of Matewan, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025.

June was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and stubborn spirit made her the heart of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Joe Dean Hammond, with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter, hard work, and devotion.

June raised her family with strength and grace, always putting others before herself. Her kitchen was the gathering place for everyone she loved, especially on holidays — and no one ever left hungry. Her famous chicken and dumplings were more than just a meal; they were a comfort and a reminder of how deeply she cared.

She had a soft spot for her dogs, Misty and Gracie, who were her loyal companions and constant sources of joy. June will be remembered for her fierce independence, her sense of humor, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and loved.

She is survived by her sons Kenneth Hammond (wife Suzy), Mark Hammond, Richard Hammond (wife Nancy), and Terry Hammond (wife Donna); and her daughters Lisa Painter (husband Mike) and Carrie Haiber (husband Richard). June was the proud grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 21, each one blessed to have known her love.

A memorial service to celebrate June’s life will be held on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 PM at Grace Bible Church, located at 9920 Lanham Severn Road, Seabrook, MD 20706.

June’s love, laughter, and spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength to her family.
