Francis Raymond Lyons Jr

Francis Raymond Lyons, Jr. – aka Frank, Dad or Boppy – died unexpectedly from cardiac arrest around Noon on February 27th at his son’s home in Between, GA.  He was 90.  His loving wife of 67 years, Jeanne Ann (Matthews) Lyons had preceded him in death along with his brother Thomas Francis Lyons, II.

He is survived by his children Francis III (Shawnee), Christa Bowles, and Thomas (Andrea); his grandchildren Francis IV (Audra), Justin (Alysson), Jessamy Russell (Matthew), Owen, Robyn Lyons; Mary and John (Melanie Yakel) Bowles and Katherine Winston (Tyler), Timothy (Bea) and Sarah Lyons; and great-grandchildren Jayden, Sophie and Sadie Bowles and Charlotte and Riordan Russell.

Frank was the son of the late Francis Raymond Lyons, Sr. of Chicago and Josephine McMullen and was born on May 1, 1930 in Cambridge, MA.  His father was Vice President and General Manager of DeMets Candies and Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Tuberculosis Sanitarium.

Frank graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School, Rockville, MD (1948) and the University of Maryland, College Park (1953) after attending Boston College for a year (1949).  After graduation, Frank was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF and served in active duty until 1957, when he continued service in the USAF Reserve serving until 1967.

Frank was a dynamic Business Food Service executive and leadership mentor with the Marriott Corporation. He was appointed east regional Vice-President after Marriott raided SAGA in 1986 and increased their operations to 2,300 sites. He retired in 1995. During the course of his professional career Frank had directed operations for ARA/Slater, ABC, Stouffer’s and SAGA. Frank served the local church as an active layman, encouraging clergy and faithful with support and valuable counsel in various leadership roles.

Viewing is from 7pm - 9pm, Friday, March 5th at Marzullo Funeral Chapel, 6009 Harford Rd., Baltimore, MD.  The funeral service is at 11am, Saturday, March 6th at Holy Cross Antiochian Orthodox Church, 105 N. Camp Meade Road, Linthicum Heights, MD with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials/contributions may be made to the same Holy Cross Church.
