Thelma Lucille Bowers, lovingly known as Sheet by all who knew and loved her, was the fourth of nine children born to the late Nathaniel and Earline Bowers on January 11, 1941 in Chapin, South Carolina. She was called to her eternal rest on October 30, 2016. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Varnetta Bowers and the two brothers George Bowers and Darriel Bowers.
Thelma received her childhood education at Providence Elementary School and Gallman High School. Thelma worked at Stone Manufactory as a machine operator. She also worked at Lowman Nursing Home as a nursing assistant. Thelma became an active member of Providence AME Church at an early age. After relocating to Baltimore, Maryland from South Carolina in the early 70’s she became a devoted member of Word of Faith Ministries under the leadership of the late Pastor Venora Grace Hammond. She actively served as head usher and dedicated choir member. Thelma’s love for the Lord led her to minister to the sick and comfort them in their time of need.
Thelma loved kids and helping other people. She relentlessly put others before her, always offering a kind word and a powerful prayer. Thelma’s favorite color was red and her favorite hobby was cooking. She enjoyed cooking cabbage the most and everyone loved eating it.
Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted children Randy Bowers (Willie-Mae) and Sharon Johnson (John), her loving granddaughter Jessica Johnson, a great-grandson Eden Henderson, two caring brothers Johnnie Bowers (Lisa) and Harold Bowers, three kind-hearted sisters Naomi Solomon, Ella Rose (Calvin) and Gwendolyn Suber, a sister-in-law Shirley Bowers of New Jersey, a host of nieces, nephews, and two thoughtful friends Sister Della Ford and Sister Patricia Braxton.
